Sustainability
GRK’s aim is to be a leader in sustainable infrastructure construction and to achieve net-zero carbon emissions from its own operations by 2035.
Corporate responsibility is an essential part of GRK’s strategy and its vision to be a leader in infrastructure construction. GRK seeks to promote responsibility together with its stakeholders, such as customers and partners, and to support their climate goals.
Starting from the 2025 financial year, GRK will report in accordance with the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive). Based on the data produced by GRK and interview material, the double materiality analysis has identified key sustainability themes for GRK at both the product and company levels. The most important aspects for the company’s business, people, and the environment are climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as energy consumption. GRK’s positive impact on people and the environment comes through the infrastructure it builds and maintains. GRK has defined clear sustainability metrics, which are regularly monitored. Additionally, the company is developing a reporting framework in line with the requirements of the CSRD. GRK’s sustainability metrics include, among others, the Net Promoter Score (eNPS), sickness absence rate, accident frequency rate, customer satisfaction, carbon footprint, and employee training in the principles of Rehti operations. All GRK companies follow ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment), and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety) management systems, which are also certified in accordance with the relevant standards.
Environment
GRK has developed a nature and climate roadmap extending until 2035, which outlines the company’s actions and targets for reducing the environmental impact of its operations, including the goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions from its own operations. GRK’s everyday environmentally responsible operations are guided by its action plan, quality, environmental, and safety policies, as well as its risk management policy
Low-Emission Products and Services
In infrastructure construction, emissions can be reduced by using recycled and other low-emission materials, as well as renewable fuels. Emission reductions are also achieved by optimizing logistics for earth and aggregate transport and improving material efficiency. GRK aims to triple its annual use of recycled materials to 1.5 million tons by 2035 and also aims to triple the revenue from its environmental technology business. The company strives to increase the value of waste and recycling materials by processing them into new products such as biochar and recycled fertilizers.
Workplace Communities and Leadership
Employees are GRK’s most valuable resource, and the company aims to take good care of them. GRK’s goal is for its employees to be committed and satisfied working at GRK. The company aims to be a desirable employer and training ground for industry experts. Ensuring safety and continuously developing it is central to all of GRK’s operations. GRK ensures that the workplace is safe and that working does not harm anyone’s physical or mental health. All GRK employees are trained in safety and site operations before starting their work. The use of required safety equipment is actively monitored on construction sites. GRK also has a reporting channel through which anyone can anonymously report concerns or suspicions of misconduct related to the company.
Partnerships and Procurement
GRK carries out projects in collaboration with an extensive network of partners. Knowing the partners and ensuring transparency in the subcontractor chain is especially important to GRK, as responsible procurement is one of the cornerstones of responsibility. GRK requires effective work and responsibility from its partners and subcontractors as well. GRK treats all partners fairly and aims for long-term cooperation agreements. The company complies with laws regarding the buyer’s due diligence and responsibility when using external labor, as well as similar laws in Sweden, and requires that suppliers do the same. The information of new partners is investigated to ensure knowledge of the partners. In line with its values, GRK also aims to be a desirable partner to its partners. By complying with competition laws, GRK ensures fair and free competition.
