Construction of the northern part of Verkkosaari

The construction of Kalasatama is one of the largest areas under construction in Helsinki, and construction work in the area will continue until the 2040s. As part of Kalasatama’s overall project, a residential area for approximately 3,600 residents, a large daycare centre and a marina will be built in the northern part of Verkkosaari. This is an overall contract in which GRK acts as the main contractor. The pre-construction of the northern part of Verkkosaari includes large-scale excavation, blasting and backfilling works, the renovation of the Verkkosaari basin, the construction of the shore wall and the relocation of pipelines and equipment. The project also includes finishing work at the Tukkutori area, a small number of dredging works in the southern part of Kalasatama and the relocation of the waterway route. The excavation of the partially contaminated soil in the area is guided and supervised by the builder’s environmental technical supervisor. The rehabilitation target covers the entire 13-hectare contract area and the proportion of contaminated soil to be removed is approximately 250,000 cubic metres.
